T he Buckeye Valley Museum has been a landmark since 1930. Founder I.H. Parkman’s dream became a reality when the former Buckeye Town Hall was moved to its current site, 116 E. Maricopa County Road 85, and Mayor Jack Gable unlocked the doors in March 1953. What began as a one-room collection in the former government building with small living quarters for caretakers has evolved into a full-fledged museum dedicated to the history of Buckeye. Buckeye Valley Historical Society and the Buckeye community worked to expand and remodel the building to what it is today. The newest improvement was a façade renovation in 2022. The new façade adds dimension to the building with Old Western-style accents and gives visitors an idea of what they’re about to walk into. Inside the museum sit several displays showing the historical eras of Buckeye, as well as an ever-expanding collection of hundreds of photos and local artifacts.

F ast Freddy wasn’t moving very fast during Saturday’s Night Market on the 6th Street Plaza in downtown Buckeye, where temperatures were cool. Typically, the monthly markets take place on the second Friday of each month, bringing local vendors and entrepreneurs together to visit with the community and shoppers seeking locally made and locally supplied crafts and unique products, services and more. At the most recent Night Market, the Buckeye business One of a Kind Petting Zoo brought a small collection of goats, pigs, bunnies and lambs – plus one Sulcata African spurred tortoise named Fast Freddy. Friday Night Market organizer Melissa Calles said the monthly markets usually feature 40-60 different vendors and businesses, ranging from food booths to locally baked items, to ceramic artists, unique clothing suppliers, artists and more. The next market will take place on Feb. 13 at the 6th Street Plaza across from City Hall on Monroe in downtown Buckeye.

Do you offer before and after school care? Yes! We proudly offer before and after school programming for our families. Are Imagine Schools teachers highly qualified? Yes, our teachers are highly qualified and continuously educated in all areas to ensure the best possible education for your student. Additionally, all faculty members hold a valid fingerprint clearance card. Does your school have a dress code? Yes, all students are required to adhere to our board approved dress code. For specific details please refer to our Parent/Student Handbook found under our PARENTS tab on the Homepage, in the School Uniforms link.
What curriculum do you use?
Education Plan (IEP). For more information, please contact Jennifer Golanowski, our Special Education Coordinator. Does the school call me when my student has an unexcused absence? Yes, our attendance system will make daily calls whenever your student is absent and we have not received a notification from the parent/guardian excusing that day’s absence. Do you offer after school extra curricular activities? Currently, there are extra curricular activities that are offered. However, they may vary from year to year, depending on the demand for the activity.
We use the Imagine Schools Curriculum, which is aligned with the Arizona State Standards. Is your school free? Yes, our school is a state- funded, independent public school that is free to all students. We do however, often have a waiting list.
Imagine Buckeye FAQ What is a charter school? Charter schools are independently operated public schools. There is no charge to parents because funding comes from state and local taxes. Charter schools must meet the same academic requirements as traditional public schools but are also directly accountable to parents. What are the office hours? Office Hours are 7:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. MST Monday-Friday. These hours may change due to holidays and seasonal school schedules. Please call 623-250-4570.
BY DAVID KENNARD T hroughout the hallways and classrooms at Imagine Buckeye, you’ll hear school children of all ages referred to as “our kids,” and teachers bragging about “my kids.” “The difference here is that it truly is a smaller school,” said Ashley Guerrero, assistant principal at Imagine Buckeye Elementary. “We have two teachers per grade. We truly know our kids in a whole different capacity.” As part of a national network of non- profit, public charter schools, Imagine Schools Buckeye relies on the relationships it has with families committed to providing a high quality of education for their children that will prepare students for lives of leadership, accomplishment and exemplary character. Imagine Buckeye, a pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade charter school, is an independently operated public school with no charge to parents. Because funding comes from state and local taxes it must meet the same academic requirements as traditional public schools but are directly accountable to parents and guardians of the children attending. While most students at Imagine Buckeye learn about the school because of its proximity to the neighborhoods around Youngker High School, families frequently hear about the school through friends, school organized events or social media. “Yes, a lot of it is word of mouth,” Guerrero says. “I will say when we first got out here. It was a lot of the typical social media – Facebook, Instagram – because at that time, almost none of these houses were here.” The school delivers on its promise to provide a personalized education for its 460 students by keeping its classroom sizes manageable, which frequently creates a waiting list for families seeking availability. Imagine Schools emphasizes excellence in academics and character, empowering learners to become leaders. As it is aligned with the Arizona State Standards, Imagine Schools curriculum equips students to track their own academic progress, using data to set personal learning goals and celebrate achievement. In learning environments rich with rigor and relevancy, students graduate well prepared for college, career and life.
Do you have a lunch program?
Yes. Lunch is available for all students. We participate in the National School Lunch Program. Does this school offer special education services? Yes, as a public school, we provide special education services aligned with the student’s Individual
“All our resources are for kids, to help promote them and just kind of help them continue to grow,” Guerrero said. “When we have kids coming from public school, sometimes they get lost in the school,” Guerrero said. “Sometimes they get lost in there or the attention there, sometimes is very negative. So when they come here, they’re able to have a sense of autonomy and a voice in what they do and what they say.” She says the staff at Imagine Buckeye “see them.” “They’re not just another student who passes through the gates, and we don’t know their name,” Guerrero says. “We just know their face. I can honestly say in the last three years I’ve been here, I know almost every single kid here. “And even if I don’t know their names, I’m like, ‘Hey man, how are you doing? I hope you have a great day,” Guerrero says.
