Minimum wage increases
Some working Maricopans saw beefier paychecks starting last month. Arizona increased its minimum wage from $13.85 to $14.35. The 50-cent bump is part of an annual increase established by the 2016 Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act. This makes Arizona’s minimum wage the eighth highest in the nation. Developers confirmed Maricopa’s second Taco Bell is on track to open this year. The restaurant, located on Maricopa- Casa Grande Highway and Stonegate Road, broke ground in early November and a grand opening is anticipated as soon as next month. “The anticipated finish date for construction is March,” said John Baldwin, the franchise owner. “I’m sure opening shortly thereafter, possibly April.”
“We want to pay our employees as much as possible, so that makes it difficult,” said AZ Slims Restaurants Operating Partner Lucas Barnett. “We just have to do our best to find really good employees.”
