2025 May Issue of InMaricopa Magazine

FROM THE EDITOR

L Calling the ‘toon’ LAST MONTH, WE POSED THIS QUESTION TO our readers on our website: If you could change one thing about Maricopa, what would it be? We received hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of responses. Then, we asked our friend ChatGPT to analyze the responses. Quickly, we realized most people were saying the same thing. Fix State Route 347. process. So, on the cover of our magazine this month, we literally drew it out. Let me illustrate my point for you. Before I found my forever home in Maricopa, I spent a couple of years working on the other side of SR 347 at the Phoenix New Times . That’s where I fell in love with illustrated magazine covers. As for our second one, well, you’re holding it right now. This is a big deal, too. The whole editorial team pitched in for this month’s cover story about the city’s plan to fix the embattled SR 347 that’s so crazy it just might work. Transforming one of the most dangerous and overcrowded highways in the state to, you know, something kind of bearable, has been a drawn-out

We have some other fantastic stories in this edition, too, like David Iversen’s Spring cleaning , a story about fighting illegal dumping with questionably legal doxxing.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t congratulate Maricopa’s 2025 cohort (the biggest yet) of graduating seniors! Especially at Desert Sunrise High School, which is playing Pomp and Circumstance for the first time ever this month. These capped and gowned new adults are just about ready to go out and represent Maricopa on the world’s stage. One day,
