Rumors say California-based hardware retailer Harbor Freight will soon occupy the former 99 Cents Only store at John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road, which shuttered in May. The rumor was unofficially confirmed when Santa Rosa Crossing resident Amber Miller said last month her husband would manage the store, adding it would open in October. However, Harbor Freight spokesperson Donna Walker had a more tempered response. “I can’t confirm anything right now, but we are looking in the area,” she told InMaricopa , adding the company might make an announcement in September.

Maricopa’s future Trulieve cannabis store now appears to be marketed as Nirvana Center Dispensaries. InMaricopa asked city spokesperson Monica Williams if the name change will affect Trulieve’s controversial building permit. “At this time, the city has not received any requests to change the name of the Trulieve project,” Williams said. “The building permit has been granted and issued under Trulieve.” The Nirvana website states a dispensary is “coming soon” to Maricopa. Nirvana is a Colorado- based subsidiary of Trulieve, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Details on when the city may review or approve the application and a construction timeline have not been released. The closest 7-Eleven store to Maricopa today is 20 miles north at Kyrene and Warner Roads in Tempe.
