Mayhem, the city’s beloved Halloween house decorating contest, returns to Maricopa this month — and for the second consecutive year, it’s presented by your friends here at InMaricopa . Whether you’re entering your haunted home display for the chance to win cash and prizes or taking the little goblins on a spooky tour of the neighborhood and voting for your favorite house, the festivities are just days away. The city of Maricopa hosted the event from 2007 to 2022, evolving over the years “with the changing needs and size of the community,” said Maricopa Community Enrichment Director Quinn Konold. Last year, city officials determined they had outgrown the contest, and InMaricopa took over. It was the biggest Mysterious Mansion Mayhem event to date with more than 5,500 InMaricopa readers casting over 30,000 votes to declare a winner — Shaun Martin for Cradle Bay Children’s Sanatorium at 45595 W. Keller Drive in Alterra. “We’re excited to see the Mysterious Mansion Mayhem legacy live on,” said Maricopa’s superintendent of cultural affairs, Travis Orian. InMaricopa.com will release an interactive map so you can take the tour of homes for yourself and vote for your favorite haunted house in Maricopa from Oct. 25 through Halloween. Last year’s winner is not eligible for the top prize. You can vote once per day. Like last year, one random voter will also be selected to win a prize. The winners will be announced Nov. 1 with a special award ceremony and a photo op.
