LaQuinta Fisher hopes her new hair salon, Silk Press Xpress, brings a little bit of Southern hospitality to Maricopa. “When people feel that Southern hospitality, they will feel welcomed,” she told InMaricopa. The fledgling business offers silk presses, coloring, braids, hair and lash extensions, and brow services. BRIEF

Unfortunately, the award-winning Phoenix restaurant likely will not be coming to Maricopa after all. Owners Leo and Brian Madrigal had not “taken any action to move forward” in opening the Maricopa location it announced in 2021 before its March deadline, according to city officials. On top of that, Cocina Madrigal suffered a kitchen fire in mid-March that closed the restaurant’s flagship location indefinitely. City officials speculated it may cause owners to “direct their attention away from Maricopa.”

Smokey, a stray garden kitty turned chief mouser, emotional support cat and honorary floor supervisor, began his em-paw-ment at Karsten’s Ace Hardware. Stonegate development

In just a matter of weeks, paperwork flooded in for multiple commercial and residential projects at the northwest corner of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Stonegate Road. Last month, then-City Manager Rick Horst said Buffalo Wild Wings, Circle K and Starbucks have shown interest in setting up shop somewhere on the 36 acres of land that will also be the site of a Home Depot store. A public records request showed not only restaurants and a convenience store were coming to the area, but also two multifamily rental housing developments. This would bring an additional 446 rental units to the city.
