TONY ROSE’S LEGACY

When Yvonne attended the funeral of a man for whom she had ghostwritten, the minister held up the book during the service. Yvonne mentioned to the minister that she had written the book. Later, the minister contacted her and said he had a box stuffed with personal documents that he wanted to turn into a book. Yvonne worked with him to write Victory Together for Martin Luther King Jr.: The Story of Rev. Warren H. Stewart Sr., Gov. Evan Meacham and the Historic Battle for a Martin Luther The Roses have associated with their share of big names. Yvonne taught modeling to Jacqueline Jackson, the wife of Rev. Jesse Jackson. Tony worked with Rev. Al Sharpton, who has been aligned with the family for many years. But it’s the day-to-day interactions with aspiring authors that keep Yvonne fully engaged with her work. “When people call, they talk to me. Chronicling the career and achievements of Tony Rose could occupy its own book. Among the highlights: • Raised in the Whittier Street Housing Projects in Boston, Tony overcame the chaos and violence of his youth, chronicling his early years in The Autobiography of an American Ghetto Boy . • When the industry was much less diverse, Rose defied the odds to become a successful executive producer, record producer, record company owner, personal manager, music publisher, recording studio owner, recording engineer, songwriter and composer. • A co-architect of the “Boston Black Music Scene” in the late 1970s and ‘80s, he

was the manager of Prince Charles Alexander and co- producer of the hit-making group Prince Charles and the City Beat Band. Tony held recording and production deals with Virgin Records, Atlantic Records, Pavilion

and CBS/Sony Records. • In the late 1980s, he
