Preparing future teachers CAC wins approval to launch first

bachelor’s degree in elementary education BY ANGELA ASKEY, CAC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR PUBLIC RELATIONS & MARKETING C ENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE recently received full approval from the Higher Learning Commission, its regional accreditor, to offer a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree. This 120-credit hour degree is slated to begin in Fall 2026. The approval represents a first for CAC and a significant milestone for higher education access in Pinal County. With the new bachelor’s degree program, CAC can offer affordable, high- quality educational pathways to students who may be balancing work, family and financial responsibilities. Students can now complete all four years at their local community college while significantly reducing costs associated

degree aligned with Arizona workforce needs. This model helps students graduate with less debt, enter the workforce sooner, and remain invested in the communities where they live and work. Keeping qualified teachers in our communities is critical to addressing ongoing local teacher shortages. “The BSEE is the first bachelor’s degree to be offered by Central Arizona College,” said Patrick Moyer, academic dean of arts and sciences. “At CAC, our commitment to Pinal County drives everything we do. We’re excited to expand our offerings with four-year and post-baccalaureate degrees designed to strengthen our local workforce and boost economic growth.” “Our new programs in Elementary Education address a critical need for dedicated, highly qualified teachers in Pinal County and across Arizona,” added Cara Steiner, lead faculty for Elementary Education. “Through powerful community partnerships, innovative academic programs and some of the most affordable tuition rates in the state, CAC is shaping the future of education while creating opportunities that change lives.
