The area is also home to Maricopa’s first 24-hour emergency hospital, Exceptional Healthcare, helping anchor the district as an important destination for residents. Soon, a pedestrian bridge will further connect the district, making it easier than ever to move between the bustling commercial corridor and the historic heart of Maricopa. And at the heart of it all is the city’s newest

F or generations, this corner of Maricopa has been a place where the community gathers. Long before the city grew into the vibrant community it is today, families would meet here at the old Rotary community swimming pool — a simple but cherished gathering place where neighbors cooled off in the summer and children spent long afternoons splashing in the water. At the time, Maricopa was still a small town, and the pool served as one of the community’s primary social hubs. As Maricopa grew, so did its needs. Eventually the City invested in the state-of-the-art recreational complex at Copper Sky, offering amenities that far surpassed what the aging pool could provide. The old pool site slowly faded into memory. But the city leaders saw something more. They saw the potential for this historic corner of Maricopa to once again become a place where the community gathers — not just to play, but to celebrate the story of the city itself.
A vision years in the making Revitalizing the Heritage District was never about a single project. It required a series of bold investments and long-term planning decisions designed to breathe new life into one of Maricopa’s most historically significant areas. “Projects like this are the result of years of thoughtful planning and investment in the Heritage District,” said Mayor Nancy Smith. “From State Route 347 overpass to new businesses and now Mike Ingram Heritage Park, we’re seeing a long-term

Realy for Life Join us for the 2026 Relay For Life of Maricopa on Saturday, April 11 from 2-9 p.m. at Desert Sunrise High School. This inspiring community event brings people together to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and raise funds to support the mission of the American Cancer Society. Admission is free for everyone, and walk registration is also free—but you don’t have to walk to attend! Come enjoy an afternoon and evening filled with music, games, food, bounce houses, a silent auction, and raffle prizes for the whole family. Cancer survivors who register for the event will receive a free survivor T-shirt mailed directly to their home. The evening concludes with the meaningful Luminaria Ceremony at 7 p.m., honoring and remembering those affected by cancer.
