This “charming” home on the north side of the city offers a semi-open layout that “balances privacy with connectivity,” which was one of its selling points, according to its Multiple Listing Service description. With a neutral color palette, this home basks in ample natural light. The home features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a den. In the large backyard, beyond a covered patio is an empty canvas for improvements. It sold for $20,575 below the asking price.

This iconic cliffside beach-themed home was the priciest real estate sale anywhere with a Maricopa address in 2024 when sold for $750,000 in May to a couple with a strong connection to the city. Stepping through the front door used to feel like stepping into an actual oceanfront home, as the interior décor consisted of various coastal paintings, minimalistic furniture and plenty of greenery. After the 2024 sale, real estate flippers did away with the longstanding theme. The home ended up back on the market a year later — and at a big discount. After 240 days on the market, sans beachy furniture, it sold for $575,000 (the sellers originally asked for $800,000) on May 23. Though it has kept its iconic lean-to room, colorful walls, large windows and vibrant beach-themed pool, the home is missing all the seaside furniture and paintings of its heyday. The new owners, David and MaryAlice Wallis, plan to restore this vacant home to its former shoreside glory. The married couple currently live in Washington State but are looking forward to an Arizona retirement. One of the first decorations they installed in their new house was an American flag: “We’re patriots,” MaryAlice said in a phone interview from Longview, Wash., where she is serving a term as a city councilwoman that expires at the end of the year. The couple have a long history of traveling to Maricopa since they helped MaryAlice’s father, Maricopa Meadows resident Tom Lloyd, move to the city in 2008. They recently moved him back to Washington when he passed away in 2023. “Maricopa became a second home,” MaryAlice said. “We visited several times a year.” David added: “It was just a golden opportunity and a priceless thing for us having part of our heart there with her father living there for so long, and us growing to love the community.” Planning their Arizona retirement, the Wallises will have to adjust to a landlocked lifestyle they never knew in the Pacific Northwest, where they co-own a seaside property in Oregon. “We have a little beach place that we share with a couple of other people that we purchased on the Pacific Ocean, and we love the coast,” David said, his voice tinged with emotion. “Being in the desert, just that mountainside, man, you sit out there on that deck and it’s just majestic with the cactus all around you. There’s no way to explain that feeling when you’re sitting out there; it’s quiet, and you can hear the sounds of the desert.” The couple said they may eventually put the home up as an Airbnb-style vacation rental for the coming summers before they move to Hidden Valley full time, letting locals enjoy a beach getaway hundreds of miles from the ocean. The house was originally built in 2021 by Maricopa-based Beach House LLC after it bought the property for $90,000. That property first sold in 1999 for $27,000.
