12 Someburros Chandler-based Someburros submitted a full development package to the city that reveals detailed architectural, landscaping and site plans for a drive-thru restaurant at Stonegate Plaza. The documents show a 3,519-square-foot building with indoor dining, a 400-square-foot covered patio and a one-lane drive-thru at the northwest corner of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Stonegate Road. The family-owned restaurant group has operated in the Valley since 1986. The brand was founded by the Vasquez family, who previously ran the popular Poncho’s Mexican Food in South Phoenix. Maricopa marks the restaurant’s second location in Pinal County. 13 South Bridge Marketplace Three new buildings are proposed for construction at the northeast corner of John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue. The additions are part of the final development phase. The trio of buildings would include a mix of restaurant and retail tenants. Panera Bread, which would sit in a building across the parking lot from the Trulieve dispensary, is currently the only confirmed business in this phase. Developers still need to obtain civil, building, fire and development review permits before breaking ground — a process that could take three to six months because “it’s a collaborative process between the developers and the city,” said Williams. 14 Street Queen Tacos The family-owned Casa Grande taqueria is preparing to open its second location in Maricopa’s Cobblestone Plaza, taking over space formerly occupied by Tacos N’ More. Street Queen Tacos is run by extended family members of Tacos N’ More’s owners. “It’s always been something we’ve wanted to do,” said Manager Diego Negrete. “It’s all ready to go so we won’t have much to update. We’re keeping it
Arizona State Express Title & Registration Maricopa’s only MVD provider shuttered indefinitely in June. The closing of Arizona State Express Title & Registration, which had operated in the Maricopa Fiesta plaza since 2013, came amid an avalanche of poor reviews on Yelp, where the business averaged one star. Still need a Real ID? The nearest MVD offices are about a half-hour drive away in Casa Grande, Chandler or Tempe. 2 Baskin-Robbins Baskin-Robbins will hold its grand opening July 19. The event will feature $2 scoops all day, along with a DJ from noon to 4 p.m., giveaways and coupons. “With costs going up, it’s still a great deal,” said franchisee Dana Rakvica. A single scoop costs $4.49 at a Chandler location. “We invest a lot of money into giving away all that ice cream, but it’s an investment in the future of the store.” Soft openings are planned for July 17 and 18, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. 3 Duke’s Roadhouse It finally happened. The long-anticipated restaurant and music venue, Duke’s Roadhouse, officially opened. Owner Steve Kovach, a Chandler developer, said Duke’s is now the city’s largest combined restaurant, bar and music venue, featuring an open-air patio, balcony and performances Thursday through Sunday. Just one day after it opened in June, the honky-tonk restaurant was visited by Pinal County health inspectors, who concluded their cowboy cookin’ was up to par and issued them an “excellent” rating. 4 Global Water Resources Global Water pumped a record 3.1 billion gallons of groundwater last year, a 300-million-gallon increase from its previous annual report. GWR Vice President Jon Corwin said the increase is due to the city’s continued
growth, but added Maricopa still has “68% designation of our assured water supply available for growth.” Global Water plans to continue adding to the supply by building a new recharging facility in the city. “When constructed, we anticipate it could recharge approximately 400 to 600 million gallons per year. That’s Class A-plus recycled water that goes into basins and percolates back into the ground,” Corwin said. 5 Hickman’s Family Farms The Southwest’s largest egg producer will shut down most of its production for nearly two years following a recent bird flu outbreak that culled 6 million chickens. Its Maricopa operations, one of four in Arizona, will be the only to continue producing eggs, confirmed CEO Glenn Hickman. The outbreak was tied to the Buckeye-Tonopah operations. He shifted blame to vaccine delays. “We need to access the vaccine that the federal government has already approved. We need to be able to start giving it to our flocks,” he said. The cull comes after the federal government recently cancelled more than $700 million in funding for Moderna’s bird flu mRNA vaccine rollout. Hickman’s has laid off hundreds of its 850 workers and The 6½-acre commercial development slated to be built just east of Walmart will feature second Maricopa locations for Goodwill, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Jersey Mike’s Subs. The project will also include Maricopa’s first Swig, a Utah-based drink chain that built its identity around “dirty sodas,” and an unnamed ice cream shop. “Groundbreaking is anticipated in early 2026,” said the developers. The plaza will include multiple freestanding pads, inline shops and the drive-thru endcap that’s still available for lease. ended its inmate labor program. 6 Legacy on Porter

Maricopa’s next big-box home improvement retailer will host a grand opening July 25. “The community is really excited,” Store Manager Adrienne Gile said in June. “The buzz and the amount of people we get showing up or asking about the opening is super cool.” Ribbon-cutting festivities begin with a weeklong soft opening starting July 17 featuring small community events. The grand opening, with “food and swag and vendors here the whole night,” comes a week later, Gile said. 8 Maricopa Community Assisted Living Center Tortosa resident William Jones submitted pre-application paperwork to construct an assisted living center at White-and-Parker Road and Wild Horse Trail. “As our population continues to age, the demand for supportive housing solutions that cater to the needs of the elderly individuals is becoming increasingly urgent,” Jones wrote in the project narrative. The proposal calls for up to 40 residents to live in a 20,000-square-foot facility. Building plans detail 40 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a cafeteria, therapy services, a beauty salon and laundry center. 9 My Dr Now The Chandler-based primary care clinic hosted a grand opening in June at its newest location at Edison Pointe, 44360 W. Edison Road, Suite 135. Norah Parker, My Dr Now’s vice president of provider development, said the clinic’s goal is “to be there when nobody else is.” “What do you do when you’re off work and feeling sick, or what do you do when you pick up your kids from daycare and they have a stomachache? We’re going to be the ones that are here for you,” she said.

ORLIES’S TAPROOM

10 Orlie’s Taproom Senita resident Jason Martin plans to bring a taproom to the northeast corner of Porter and Applegate Roads. The idea emerged after frequenting East Valley taprooms with friends and conversations would consistently cycle back to opening their own closer to home. After his son passed away in 2021, Martin decided to name the taproom after him. Even the website landing page reads, “This is for you, son.” Like most taprooms, Orlie’s will specialize in local craft beers on tap, as well as canned beers and locally made wine.
11 Peaches & Gains Stepping into the gym for the first time isn’t easy for anyone. Natalie McGrory knows it can be intimidating for women. “A lot of women go to the gym with every intention of doing weights, but they feel intimidated and end up on the cardio machine,” she said. That’s why she opened her own gym, Peaches and Gains, at 19342 N. Maricopa Road, Suite 110, in the Heritage District in June. “I’m just so excited because I just want to change [women’s] lives,” McGrory said. “I’ll meet a new client and think, ‘How can I motivate her, how can I push her?’”
