BRIEF

1 Chilaquiles Modern Kitchen Spicy ramen, s’mores French toast and tableside “trompito” for two have arrived in Maricopa. Chilaquiles Modern Kitchen, the popular Mesa-based Mexican brunch spot, has officially opened its second location in the former Roost sports bar space at 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway. The restaurant underwent significant remodel at Suite 101 in The Shops at Maricopa Village from a dim barroom to a bright, modern interior with rows of all- white booths, white exposed beams and a coffee-bean fresco on the ceiling. 2 Fast & Friendly Car Wash Amid a rebrand to Dash Car Wash, the operator is under scrutiny after a wave of complaints from Maricopa residents about duplicate and unauthorized charges. A dozen customers told InMaricopa they were double-billed or hit with unexpected fees last month, including one resident charged for four memberships in a single month. District manager Ron Fudge of Ultra Clean Express, which operates Dash and Fast & Friendly sites, said the company is refunding affected customers. He attributed the issues to two software systems run simultaneously by the prior owners, which caused confusion and errors, and said those problems “have settled down.” Fudge urged customers with concerns to use the company portals at FastandFriendlyCarWash.com or DashCarWash.com for the most direct resolution. 3 Headquarters Lounge Headquarters Lounge remains closed months after the March death of longtime owner Alma Farrell, whose name was on the liquor license. The historic bar at Maricopa and Honeycutt Roads has been unable to operate until a new license is issued. The new owners, Darwin and Jocelyn Parks, recently emailed customers claiming they needed 500 letters of community

“Same price, same service, same employees they’ve known all along,” Andreas said, noting customers will continue to reach local staff rather than call centers. Ponderosa, which serves rural areas in central and southern California, plans to grow its presence in Arizona and build community support. 7 Rush Funplex Syracuse, Utah-based Rush Funplex has proposed building a 75,000-square-foot entertainment facility at Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Shea Way, public records show. Plans call for a 100% indoor complex featuring bowling, billiards, go-karts, arcades, bumper cars, climbing walls and other attractions. A separate 25,000-square-foot area would be reserved for complementary recreational or entertainment uses. The site is immediately west of Tractor Supply Co. While no timeline has been set, developers indicated they are prepared to submit permits to move the project forward. 8 Yummy Noodles Family-owned Yummy Noodles has temporarily closed after celebrating its two-year anniversary. The Chinese restaurant will remain closed through Oct. 14 as the owners take time off to rest and visit family in China. Known for its authentic cuisine and seafood, Yummy Noodles has operated six days a week since opening and plans to resume normal hours after the break.

support to present in court to reopen the bar. In response, a superior court administrator said no such request ever existed and that judges would never solicit letters in that manner. 4 Mattress Firm Scottsdale-based developer SimonCRE plans to bring a Mattress Firm to Maricopa by renovating a 3,400-square-foot building near the Shops at Maricopa Village, according to city documents. The building, at the northwest corner of Hathaway Avenue and John Wayne Parkway, formerly housed Sun Life Family Health Center. Proposed improvements include a new storefront with additional windows and upgraded landscaping. Local competitor Copa Mattress & Furniture said the project could boost its own sales by drawing more shoppers to the area. 5 Motor Vehicle Processing Motor Vehicle Processing has opened a new storefront in the Maricopa Fiesta, filling the gap left by Arizona State Express Title & Registration, which closed last month after 12 years. The Willcox-based, family-owned company offers third-party Motor Vehicle Division services and now operates six locations statewide. The Maricopa office is its newest expansion. It’s the only business offering Motor Vehicle Division services in the city; the closest government office is near 56th Street and Chandler Boulevard. 6 Ponderosa Broadband Ponderosa Broadband has entered the Maricopa area, launching service in Hidden Valley and Thunderbird Farms with a community event at the Elements Center. The O’Neals, Calif.-based provider acquired locally owned CommunityLTE after the sudden death of its CEO, Jeff Christensen, last fall. General Manager Greg Andreas said the transition keeps prices, services and staff in place.
