VALEDICTORIAN

CLASS OF 2023

Jesus Elias Corona

G ood afternoon students, parents, and teachers, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2023 Graduation Ceremony of Maricopa Virtual Academy. Today we celebrate an accomplishment we’ve been working towards since kindergarten. Today we celebrate the end of a major chapter of our lives and the start of a new one. Today, we celebrate the end of our high school years and look onwards towards the future. Thirteen years -at least thirteen years of our lives- has led up to this moment. Thirteen years of challenge. Thirteen years of hard work. Today, we can all agree that it’s been challenging. These last few years have been anything but ordinary. Quarantine and lockdowns began when most of us were only freshmen and we had to quickly adapt to a new style of learning. It took quite a while for us to find a rhythm when it came to online learning, but once we found it, some of us preferred this style of learning and chose to stay online once quarantine was lifted. I’m sure that many of you are anxious about starting this new chapter in your life and that’s okay. I assure you that with enough determination, you can succeed in just about anything. For some of you this may be the last time you ever touch a pencil or a book. For others, though, it may be only the beginning of your academic journey. The thought of such an open future may be overwhelming, but now shouldn’t be a time to stress. Today is the present; a day celebration. Sometimes it is best to be in the present and focus on what is now versus what will be. Today is a day that we don’t just look ahead, but we also look in the past and see how far we’ve come. In conclusion, you’ve earned this. All of the sacrifices you’ve made, all of the seemingly endless work you’ve done. Congratulations to every single one of you who are here today.
