Education coronation
DESERT SUNRISE HIGH SCHOOL
Maricopa’s high schoolers celebrated homecoming with all the American tradition of glaring stadium lights, loud crowds, crowns and sashes. Maricopa High School crowned its homecoming king and queen, Brady McMullen and Alexa Chavez, who were paraded across the field on a streamer- trimmed golf cart during the Sept. 27 football game. The Rams won the homecoming game handily, 42-14, against Gilbert’s Mesquite High School. Desert Sunrise celebrated the Golden Hawks’ 49-13 win over Glendale’s Copper Canyon High School Sept.17. The bash continued the following night with students dressed to the nines in a packed gym for the homecoming dance — and 12th-grade royalty for the first time ever.
